Welcome to New Camp David (NCD). We hope that you have a wonderful stay.
To ensure you have a worry-free holiday, please see details on the house for your information.
- There are keys to the front door and back door in key safes by each door. The code for both safes is 1940.
- The Wi-Fi network at NCD is called eXtend. The password is 12345678. There are three routers around the house so you should get a reasonable connection in all rooms. Internet is 3G based so you’re not going to get amazing speeds but it’s workable.
- All other keys are kept in the drawer opposite the big fridge in the kitchen.
- The rubbish bins are taken out on a Wednesday and Saturday for collection early the following morning. Recycling isn’t really a thing in North Cyprus, sadly.
- Water bottles for the filtered water are kept in the boiler room which is in the carport to the right of the back door as you’re looking at the two doors (key with large glass ‘evil eye’ fob for boiler room). Please replace water bottles at Supreme (closest supermarket to NCD on the main road). Ask at check out and they will give you a voucher for exchange. Once you have your token, take the car to the end of Supreme (RHS as you look from the road) for the exchange. (You don’t need to take the bottle into the store – they take the empty one out of the car boot and replace it with a full one). The same applies for gas – there’s a gas bottle in one of the cupboards in the garage, which fuels the hob and oven in the kitchen. If this runs out, you’ll need to replace it at Supreme.
- The air conditioning units in most rooms are on timers. You do not need to use them during the day. Opening the doors and windows gives a lovely through breeze most of the year. To turn the air cons on, press the button on the timer (located on the wall in each bedroom near the floor), once for two hours, twice for four hours or three times for six hours. Then use the remote in the room to set your preferred temperature.
- When using the pool, please use the shower to rinse off your sun cream. We use less chemicals in our pool than public pools to make swimming more pleasant, and sun cream is not great for the filters or maintaining the clarity of the water. If there is a problem, the pool man will increase the chemicals which isn’t as pleasant. Each bedroom has blue & white towels to use by the pool.
- Outside lights – there are in-pool lights and lights around the pool. The light switches are in the carport in the brown cupboard next to the boiler room. There are also outside lights for the patio area. One switch is by the back door of the kitchen and the others are to the right of the French doors in the dining room.
- The gardener’s name is Ersan. He speaks good English and will be grateful of a glass of water if you see him. Ersan normally comes on a Monday afternoon.
- The main pool man’s name is Kurtulus but he has a team of pool men these days but again offer them water if you see them. (They tend to come early in the morning).
- Tap water is filtered at NCD so it fine to clean your teeth etc but we advise to use the bottled filter water in the kitchen for drinking.
- We have good plumbing in the house – so you can flush loo paper (but please nothing else other than biological waste!). You’ll find that you need to dispose of toilet paper in bins next to the loo in most restaurants and bars.
- The washing machine is in the boiler room – instructions are in Turkish but it’s not difficult to figure-out! Washing powder, liquid and fabric conditioner etc can all be found in the boiler room, too.
Feel free to use the tea, coffee, cleaning stuff etc in the house but if you do use something up, please replace it for the next guests.
Please leave NCD as you found it, with nothing left in the bins or dishwasher and strip the beds and leave towels and bedding in the hallway at the bottom of the stairs for the cleaner to take away for washing. Obviously, the villa will be cleaned professionally after you leave.
Getting Around
Friends and Family
There is a car at NCD for you to use. This is a silver Dualis, parked outside the house. Please take care of it and leave it with a full tank of petrol and get it cleaned at one of the petrol stations on the main road or in Kyrenia (Girne) by The Colony Hotel.
The red car is for the family’s use only. (Please do not smoke it this car).
Contact Roy in advance if you need taxi transfers from the airport with no. passengers, bags and flight details (Flight number, from and to, and time and date of landing) Transfers cost approx. £65 each way to Larnaca but there have been many recent increases to the fees, caused by the significant inflation experienced across North Cyprus.
Taxis
Taxis are easy to get hold of in Cyprus but our advice is to stick with one driver if possible once they have located the house (normally WhatsAapp location drop)
If you need a taxi during your stay, please call Bellapais Taxis +09 0542 859 28 75 either by mobile or text
We use Mustafa Transfer for transfers Mobile & WhatsApp +90 533 877 6378
Winter Guests
NCD has a central heating system with an electric boiler and immersion heater in the boiler room. To turn on the heating, simply press the one button on the boiler and that’s it. When you leave, turn the boiler off by pressing the same button.
We recommend that you put the immersion heater on for an hour during the day so that you have plenty of water for showers and baths. The immersion heater switch is on the hot water tank (big orange tank in the boiler room).
The swimming pool is not heated so is a bit cold from December through till April, but if you feel brave……
Supermarkets & Shops
There are several supermarkets on the main road to Kyrenia (Passed the Fez, Turn Left and Left again)
Chemist (Ecsane)– Turn left on to main road and it’s on the right almost straight away.
Supreme – First supermarket on the right-hand side for everything you need including gas and water.
Sah – Next supermarket on the right. We call this Waitrose – Not as good for fruit and veg but great for most other things
Erdener – Tucked away behind the Erdener Chicken Restaurant in Karakum (again on the right-hand side of the mail road as you head towards Girne).
Girne has an abundance of other shops to browse.
